Story: Wine Appreciation: Nancy Myatt Fortified
Episode: 1
Presenter: Cassandra Charlick
Air Date: 9th October, 2022
Cassandra visits the Myattsfield winery nestled in the picturesque Bickley Valley to try a very special wine.
- The Nancy Myatt Fortified is this generations gift to the next.
- Named after Nancy Myatt, Josh’s grandmother and the sweet and aromatic wine is simply delightful.
- The Nancy Myatt Fortified is a solera blended liqueur, which means it has added spirit to stop the fermentation of sugars into alcohol – that keeps it sweet – and it’s produced by a solera system.
- A solera system is a traditional Spanish wine method used for sherry and other fortified wines, where you have a stack of barrels, and each year you make wine you take some from all the previous years of production, and then top it up with the newest vintage to ensure the blend continues.
- The Myattsfield solera represents 22 years’ worth of Pedro Ximinez fortified material.
- This nutty, burnt toffee, caramel wine is perfect with cheese or even poured on vanilla ice cream!
